Position: Benefits Support Staff (Public Benefits Specialist, Entry) - Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred

Position Summary

The Benefits Support Staff (Public Benefits Specialist, Entry) will serve as the primary customer service liaison for Oregon residents seeking public benefits. The role involves frontline client interaction, administrative support, and eligibility determinations within the ODHS Oregon Eligibility Partnership (OEP) team.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver professional, respectful, and culturally responsive customer service to clients, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Manage administrative operations such as phone and email communications, mail processing, electronic records, task tracking, meeting coordination, and data entry in agency systems.
  • Provide eligibility support by explaining benefits, notices, program requirements, application procedures, and community resources; maintain accurate case documentation.
  • Apply agency policies, procedures, and regulations to make informed decisions, maintain case records, and ensure accurate and timely service delivery.
  • Serve as a safety net for families, promoting stability and career opportunities for Oregonians.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of experience in a reception area or call center, interviewing and ensuring accurate and complete information, or an associate degree in Behavioral Science, Social Science, or a closely related field plus six months of similar experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience relative to the position.
Essential Attributes
  • Experience in customer service focused on building positive relationships.
  • Experience creating a welcoming, inclusive environment that ensures equitable services.
  • Trauma-informed and trauma‑focused service experience using a person‑centered approach.
  • Typing quickly and accurately for administrative tasks.
  • Proficiency navigating multiple computer screens and prioritizing tasks.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
