Adjunct Faculty - Clinical Dentist, Dental Hygiene

This is an onsite, in‑person position located in the St. Louis, Missouri area. Candidates should apply only if they can be physically present and available to work onsite by the start date.

St. Louis Community College is seeking a Clinical Adjunct Dentist to support the Dental Hygiene program at the Florissant Valley campus.

• Provide clinical supervision and dental oversight for patients treated by dental hygiene students in the public Dental Hygiene Clinic.
• Review and approve patient health histories, vital signs, radiographs, and treatment plans to ensure safe and appropriate care.
• Perform oral examinations, screenings, and evaluations in accordance with clinic protocols and standards of care.
• Support and guide students in clinical decision‑making, patient management, and application of professional standards.
• Collaborate with dental hygiene faculty to promote consistency in instruction, evaluation, and student success.
• Participate in faculty calibration sessions to ensure alignment in clinical expectations and grading practices.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including exam findings, referrals, and consultations.
• Contribute to a safe, supportive, and educational clinical environment that promotes student learning and high‑quality patient care.
• Participate in continuing education opportunities, particularly those focused on educational methodology and clinical instruction.
• Maintain scheduled office hours to support student learning, provide feedback, and address student concerns outside of clinical sessions.
• Maintain an up‑to‑date faculty biosketch and submit annually in accordance with Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) requirements.

• Comprehensive knowledge of general dentistry, oral diagnosis, and treatment planning.
• Understanding of dental radiology principles and interpretation.
• Familiarity with infection control standards and clinical safety protocols in accordance with CDC and OSHA guidelines.
• Ability to effectively supervise and mentor students in a clinical setting while promoting critical thinking and professionalism.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and patients.
• Ability to manage clinical responsibilities and documentation efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.

• Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited institution.
• Current, active Missouri dental license in good standing.
• Minimum of three years of clinical dental practice experience.
• Current CPR certification.
• Membership in the American Dental Association.

• Previous experience working with dental or dental hygiene students in an educational or clinical setting.
• Experience with electronic dental records systems.
• Interest in teaching, mentoring, and supporting student development in a clinical environment.
• Familiarity with Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards.
• Experience in classroom, laboratory, or online instructional environments.
• Willingness or requirement to travel between campuses or instructional sites.

• Negligible to moderate physical activity, which may include standing for extended periods, light lifting of instructional materials, and use of standard classroom or computer equipment.
