Job Overview
**** This is an onsite position located in the St. Louis, Missouri area. Candidates should apply only if they are able to be physically present and available to work onsite by the start date****
This position requires a wide range of professional responsibilities, including participation in curriculum and course development, course budget preparation, departmental planning, and attending departmental, campus, and college-wide meetings. The faculty member will actively engage in committee participation, provide student mentoring, and deliver didactic and clinical instruction at the Forest Park and/or Florissant Valley campus. Additional responsibilities include coordinating or co‑coordinating dental hygiene clinic and laboratory courses, preparing course materials, and performing other duties as assigned.
The faculty member’s course assignments will be determined by the program chair and assistant chair, in line with their education, expertise, and preparation.
- Curriculum and Course Development:
Actively participate in the development, review, and updating of curriculum for dental hygiene courses to ensure alignment with current industry standards and academic objectives. - Course Budget Preparation:
Assist in preparing and managing the budget for dental hygiene courses, ensuring appropriate allocation of resources for instructional and operational needs. - Departmental and College-Wide Engagement:
Attend and contribute to departmental, campus, and college-wide meetings, providing valuable input on program development, student success, and institutional goals. - Committee Participation:
Serve on departmental and college committees, contributing to institutional growth, policy development, and the enhancement of educational programs. - Student Mentoring and Advising:
Mentor and advise dental hygiene students on academic progress, professional development, and career opportunities, fostering a supportive learning environment. - Didactic and Clinical Course Preparation and Teaching:
Prepare and deliver instruction for both didactic and clinical courses in dental hygiene, ensuring the effective teaching of theoretical and practical skills. - Clinical and Laboratory Coordination:
Coordinate or co‑coordinate dental hygiene clinic and laboratory courses, ensuring smooth operations, adherence to safety protocols, and quality instruction. - Course Assignments:
Course assignments will be made by the program chair and assistant chair, based on the faculty member’s education, preparation, and expertise, and may include a variety of topics across the dental hygiene curriculum. - Other Duties as Assigned:
Perform additional duties as needed, in alignment with the goals of the department and institution, to support the success of the dental hygiene program and its students.
- Knowledge of curriculum development, course design, and educational theory for dental hygiene programs.
- Knowledge of accreditation standards and regulatory requirements specific to dental hygiene education and clinical practice.
- Strong understanding of dental hygiene theory, clinical procedures, and current best practices in the field.
- Knowledge of course budget preparation and resource allocation for instructional needs.
- Proficiency in integrating technology into teaching, including the use of dental hygiene software and online learning platforms.
- Ability to design, deliver, and assess both didactic and clinical courses effectively.
- Strong skills in student assessment, including designing practical exams, quizzes, and other evaluation tools.
- Excellent organizational skills for coordinating and managing dental hygiene clinic and laboratory courses.
- Ability to provide mentorship and guidance to students, helping them develop both professionally and academically.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, faculty, and staff within the department and across the college.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, for interacting with students, colleagues, and committee members.
