Position: Mental Health Psychiatrist (FSP)
Location: California

The Village is accredited by the International Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for its Adoptions, Foster Care, Mental Health, Wraparound, and Drop-In Center services. POSITION

DESCRIPTION

APsychiatrist provides comprehensive psychiatric care for clients referred by therapists, including evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders. Prescribe and monitor medications, and long-acting injectables, ordering diagnostic tests, and manage medication-assisted treatment (MAT). Collaborates closely with therapists and multidisciplinary teams, participates in program meetings, and offers general consultation as well as support during crises. Coordinates hospital admissions and inpatient care when clinically indicated.

Conducts field-based visits for clients unable or unwilling to attend clinic appointments. Ensures accurate documentation and compliance with Medical Board of California, Department of Mental Health (DMH) standards, HIPAA, and other regulatory requirements. Actively engages in case reviews, provides psychoeducation to clients and families, and supports quality improvement initiatives.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • California State Physician and surgeon's Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California
  • Completion of a residency approved by an American Specialty Board in psychiatry or Equivalent training which the appropriate American Certifying Board formally recognizes in writing as being equivalent
  • Valid DEA License
  • Maintains Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) certification to prescribe Clozapine.
  • Evaluates individuals/clients to determine if probable cause is met to initiate detention under WIC 5150
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly desired
  • Maintains own professional liability insurance and acceptable child abuse and criminal clearances required
  • Current California driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the Agency's insurance carrier.
  • Prior experience in community mental health (preferred)
  • Demonstrate medical/clinical leadership skills and experience in mental health service delivery to a broad-based individual and multi-cultural patient population including homelessness and addiction
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess good computer skills; familiarity with MS Word and Outlook; demonstrated ability to utilize electronic progress note system
  • Adapt to changing needs by acquiring new skills and knowledge.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

All of the responsibilities listed below are considered essential functions of this position. Additionally, this position is expected to ensure adherence to the core operating values and the strategic direction of the agency.

  • Performs psychiatric evaluations and screens for health-related concerns as needed
  • Develops comprehensive psychiatric treatment plans
  • Performs medication support services by evaluating the need for psychotropic medications
  • Prescribes medications and monitors their overall effect
  • May administer medication(s), when necessary
  • Orders, obtains, reviews and monitors pertinent laboratory tests
  • Works closely as part of the treatment team within a multidisciplinary team approach
  • Provides clinical consultation to other medical providers and staff regarding treatment interventions, medical and diagnostic work performed and participates in clinical case conferences
  • Provides follow-up and psychoeducation regarding medication and possible side effects, and is available in case of emergencies
  • Completes and documents medication evaluations in compliance with DMH standards
  • Coordinates treatment with hospital psychiatrist in case of hospitalization and facilitates hospital admissions when clinically indicated
  • Provides field-based client visits for routine evaluations and for clients unable or unwilling to attend clinic visits
  • Participates in regular utilization reviews of clinical charts and consultation with Therapists
  • Assists in the planning, direction, and implementation of departmental initiatives and protocols to enhance and improve client care
  • Participates in the quality of care and provides input into formulating corrective action plans to mitigate future clinical risk
  • May have to testify in court as an expert witness
  • Possess the ability to interact, communicate, and display sensitivity to a diverse population of clients
