- Provide the total range of community college academic, transfer and career counseling to focus on current and former foster youth, including orientation and the development of student educational plans (SEP);
- Provide personal counseling to assist students in addressing personal challenges, including relationships, communication skills, psychological and/or behavioral difficulties, decision‑making skills, chemical dependency problems, gender/sexuality issues, health problems;
- Provide referrals to external community agencies for housing assistance, health, mental health and/or professional counseling;
- Interpret English/math assessments;
- Administer and interpret behavioral skills assessments;
- Instruct counseling classes for college success, career planning, study skills and transfer preparation;
- Provide Independent Living instruction and facilitate small groups for students on topics of interest as appropriate;
- Provide special assistance for students who are on academic probation;
- Meet with faculty and other academic staff as necessary to support students’ individual educational programs;
- Participate in program development for the Next Up Program, coordinate activities or specialized programs, and evaluate activities;
- Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with partners on campus and in the community;
- Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed;
- Participate in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
- Work and/or teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off‑campus and large group instruction classes as needed;
- Otherwise fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122;
- Other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work or career development; AND One of the following below:
- Nine semester units of college coursework predominantly related to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages; OR
- Six semester units or the equivalent of a college‑level counseling practicum or counseling field‑work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages; and
- Two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages; OR a valid California Community College Credential; OR the equivalent education and/or experience…
