Music Instructor (Full-Time, Tenure-Track) Madera Community College
Essential Functions of PositionAt Madera Community College we value the ability to serve students from a broad range of cultural heritages, socioeconomic backgrounds, genders, abilities and orientations. The successful candidate will be an equity-minded leader committed to student success achieved through collaboration with faculty, classified staff, administration, students and community partners who are also dedicated to closing equity gaps.
- Provide instruction in Music on the Madera Community College campus and/or at off-site community campus locations, including:
- Teaching Music Theory and Musicianship (ear-training) for undergraduate music majors;
- Teaching Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Guitar and Piano;
- Developing and directing a variety of large and small ensembles;
- Teaching a full range of community college music courses such as music appreciation, History of Rock, History of Jazz or History of Musical Theater;
- Teaching music in distance education modalities, including hybrid and fully online;
- Communicating effectively with students and staff;
- Participating in the Curriculum Development process;
- Participating in the unit/program planning process;
- Attending and participating in appropriate professional meetings and workshops;
- Maintaining currency in the discipline;
- Working with community and campus organizations;
- Identifying and recommending potential adjunct faculty to teach classes;
- Assisting in evaluating adjunct instructors;
- Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed;
- Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
- Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed;
- Fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of faculty as required by Administrative Regulation 7122; and
- Other duties as assigned.
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; and
- Master’s in music; or
- Bachelor’s in music and Master’s in humanities; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
- Recent experience working with racially minoritized students and an understanding of historical patterns of exclusion in higher education;
- Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to more effectively engage racially minoritized students;
- Related work and professional experience;
- Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;
- Preferred degree emphasis in Music Performance (guitar or keyboard) or Music Education;
- Post-secondary experience teaching music;
- Professional experience as a guitarist or keyboardist and/or directing ensembles;
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education;
- Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials;
- Experience with web-based online learning and classroom technology;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
- Knowledge of the community college mission and goals.
178 duty days per year. Starting annual salary is $71,054 – $106,970 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. Benefits include medical, dental, vision for employee and dependents, life insurance, and CalSTRS retirement.
