In addition to fulfilling the responsibilities of our top instructors, the Lead Teacher Trainer assists in training, development, and coaching of other instructors.

Why Join Us?- Competitive Pay: $65 - $85 per class (Typical class time is approx. one hour and thirty minutes).
- Travel Compensation: Mileage reimbursement for trips over 15 miles one way (30 miles roundtrip). Work locations assigned by manager based on school availability.
- A Lead Teacher Trainer must be able to reach most or all of our classes in the metropolitan areas – reliable transportation is essential.
- Lead fun, interactive chess classes for 10–15 energetic elementary students. Instructors should guide activities, keep students engaged, and redirect behavior when needed.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience working with groups of children (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, or similar).
- Set the example of what the best Chess Wizards experience should be for our four customer groups:
Kids, Parents, School Administration, and Fellow Colleagues, aligned with the Chess Wizards Mission Statement. - Must be available during after‑school hours at least 4 days per week (preferably
5). Peak program weeks during fall, winter, and spring semesters require Monday–Friday after‑school schedules when classes are scheduled. Standard program time is one hour; teachers arrive 15 minutes early, stay until all students are dismissed to an authorized adult. - First scheduling choice for day camp opportunities during winter, spring, and summer breaks.
- Strong grasp of chess fundamentals, able to explain piece movement, basic strategy, and simple tactics age‑appropriately.
- Assist local Area Manager in ensuring programs and instructors are visited by management for coaching, customer conversations, and quality control.
- Assist with training, coaching, and performance evaluation of instructors.
- Help troubleshoot and resolve program challenges.
- Complete class evaluation reports and discuss with supervisor.
- Communicate daily during programming season with supervisor.
- Speak regularly with school administration and parents during site visits, gather feedback, and assist with customer service and marketing efforts.
- Maintain standard professional communication best‑practices.
- Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to engage students.
- Resume: Include a resume detailing relevant experience, including work with children in educational, recreational, or mentoring settings, and any teaching, tutoring, or classroom experience.
- Questionnaire: Complete required questionnaire related to interest in the role, experience working with children, and qualifications to teach chess.
Location Requirement: This position is based in Playa Del Rey, CA. Relocation assistance is not provided; candidates must reside in the area or be willing to relocate at their own expense.
