The Associate Dean is responsible for instructional budget administration and class schedule management. Works with program chairs to oversee teaching assignments and the scheduling of classes; oversight of workload; and provides chairs with guidance, in conjunction with Faculty Affairs, on the order of assignment and meeting faculty entitlements. Coordinate the School’s outreach activities. Oversee the branding, marketing, and promotional materials for the School.
Supports the Dean in building external relationships with alumni and other stakeholders and serve as a liaison to internal and external constituents to represent the School. Coordinates with the Dean and others on organizing and managing faculty searches. Assists the Dean, faculty, and staff in supporting the mission of the School and building a culture of excellence that incorporates fairness, integrity, creativity, innovation, engagement, and community service.
Prepares reports associated with enrollment, program assessment, program reviews, and accreditation (as necessary). Interprets and executes academic policies, standard operating procedures, and regulations of the University and School. Handles curriculum related matters including approval of courses and new/modified programs. Works with administrative and technical staff in the School and manages special initiatives as needed. Assists the Dean with personnel matters and the investigation of and reporting on Other Conduct of Concern (OCC) involving faculty, staff, and students.
Serves as Arts & Sciences Engagement Coordinator for Admissions and Recruitment coordination. Facilitates engagement of Arts & Sciences faculty with Admissions and Recruitment teams to address recruitment, enrollment and orientation of students. Assists in developing tour scripts that incorporate unique aspects of Arts & Sciences programs; solicits faculty volunteers for recruitment events; and provides outreach to prospective students. Oversee the School’s social media and online presence including managing the Arts & Sciences social media accounts ensuring consistent promotion of faculty accomplishments and School events.
Supervises student employees in managing social media accounts and special projects. Coordinates internal and external communications, e.g. School newsletter and alumni engagement and outreach. Promotes an academic culture that supports work/life balance, cooperation, and collegiality.
Demonstrates equity-minded and collaborative leadership; demonstrates operational excellence; fosters data-informed planning and accountability; advances our mission as a Hispanic-Serving Institution and regionally engaged campus; and enhances our campus culture. Participates at least once annually in professional and/or leadership development opportunities.
The Associate Dean is a member of the Dean’s leadership team and will be taking leadership on special projects, initiatives and other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation: A terminal degree in an appropriate field represented in the unit. A record of excellent teaching, scholarship, and service, and eligibility for appointment at the rank of associate or full professor.
Experience: Knowledge of all disciplines and programs in the School of Arts & Sciences. A minimum of one year of experience in academic administration that includes several areas described in the “Responsibilities and Duties” section above. Demonstrated effectiveness as a member of an administrative team. Ability to positively engage faculty and staff and maintain confidentiality. A proven record of sensitivity to and understanding of an equity-minded and culturally diverse campus community.
