Pattonville School District is seeking a passionate and dedicated English Language Arts Teacher, to join our team. Position Summary

The English Language Arts Teacher, under the general supervision of the school principal(s). The English Language Arts Teacher develops students' skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing; fosters effective communication; promotes an understanding and appreciation of literature; and motivates students to read a wide range of texts to gather information, comprehend content, and critically analyze reading materials. The teacher supports the development of literacy skills, including reading, grammar, and syntax, to prepare students for academic success.

Responsibilities also include assessing and documenting student progress, addressing individual learning needs, creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment, and communicating effectively with students, parents/guardians, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develops and administers an English Language Arts curriculum consistent with school district goals, objectives, and state standards.
  • Establishes and maintains a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, and conducive to individualized, small-group, and whole-class instruction.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates plans into meaningful and engaging learning experiences.
  • Teaches English language arts knowledge and skills, including grammar and syntax, sentence and paragraph structure, composition, vocabulary development, word denotations and connotations, creative writing, independent thinking, communication, and speaking skills.
  • Develops students' critical analysis skills through guided discussions and instruction using a variety of reading materials, including literature, informational texts, and mass media.
  • Conducts ongoing assessments of student learning and progress and adjusts instructional strategies to meet individual student needs.
  • Implements district-required and standardized assessments to maximize student achievement and monitor academic growth.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records related to grading, attendance, and student performance in accordance with district and building procedures and policies.
  • Encourages student and family involvement in the educational process and maintains effective communication with students and parents/guardians.
  • Establishes and enforces standards of student behavior in alignment with school and district policies to support a positive learning environment.
  • Collaborates with other professional staff members, participates in faculty meetings and professional development activities, and serves on appropriate committees.
  • Selects and utilizes appropriate instructional materials, resources, and strategies aligned with district curriculum and instructional goals.
  • This ELA position will be for our personalized learning team in Pirate Academy.
  • Training in personalized learning will be provided.
  • Candidate will be teaching multigrade classes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors or masters degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
