JOB SUMMARYThe Middle School Music Teacher will cultivate students’ creativity, discipline, and collaboration through music education and performance. This role combines musical expertise along with empowering students to build confidence, teamwork, and self-expression while connecting music to culture, history, and personal growth. Certified staff of Oak Grove R- VI School District can participate in Career Ladder. Staff with two years of experience teaching in a Missouri Public School may earn $1,500 - $5,000 for approved work outside of the school day.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS OF THE JOB MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
- Lead and teach general music, choir, teach theory and performance.
- Evaluates each student’s musical growth and performance.
- Knowledge of and experience in teaching Piano and Advanced Placement Music Theory preferred, however, is not required.
- Reacts to change productively and receive and transmit constructive criticism as it relates to job duties.
- Actively participate in professional development and obtain skills and information necessary to effectively perform job duties.
- Develops schemes of work, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
- Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
- Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
- Provide appropriate feedback on work.
- Encourage, monitor the progress of individual students, and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
- Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school regulations.
- Prepare required reports on students and activities.
- Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings.
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Prepare classroom for class activities.
- Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
- Observe and evaluate student's performance and development.
- Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments.
- Complete forms, write reports and engage in written correspondence with parents
- Present information effectively and respond to questions
- Write clear and complete lesson plans
- Interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
- Apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students
- Identify needs and abilities of individual students and adapt instructional methods accordingly
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents
- Perform multiple tasks simultaneously
- Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use
- Use district software for recording grades and finding student information
- Utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district.
