Overview
The Flight Team Lead is responsible for managing the Flight Team cohort. The Lead will mentor, train, and supervise high school-aged interns and assistants within the museum as well as in off-site work environments throughout the summer. The Lead will implement an authentic learning experience about the science and engineering of flight, while exposing interns to career pathways in the aviation industry.
This is a temporary summer position.
- Thorough knowledge of aerodynamics, aviation, or related field.
- Pilot experience or license preferred.
- Experience supervising youth employees or volunteers preferred.
- Proficient in basic computer skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and collaborate with diverse teams.
- Demonstrated customer service excellence and a team-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Supervise high school interns participating in the Flight Team internship, providing mentoring, training, and transportation to offsite field trips.
- Coordinate meetings (e.g. virtual and in-person) with guest speakers to highlight careers in the aviation industry.
- Design and facilitate hands-on activities for interns focused on the science and engineering of flight.
- Oversee high school level scientific research, focused on the science and engineering of flight.
- Provide training to interns for flight-related activity stations or exhibits for use in the Science Center.
- Schedule and coordinate field trips to observe aviation and science professionals at work, connecting youth with the local science and aviation community.
- Initiate purchases for program supplies as needed and assist in the tracking and management of associated budgets.
- Attend regular program staff meetings to ensure timely communication of essential information.
- Track and report program data and assist in the compilation of the program evaluation report.
- Support other Community Engagement programs, including but not limited to the Community Teen Interns.
- Collaborate with other Science Center staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned
