Job Description:

The Kingston K-14 School District is seeking an outstanding individual to fill a Guidance Counselor position in the Elementary building for the  school year. The district offers competitive pay and benefits. We honor all years of experience from other districts on our salary schedule. There are opportunities to earn additional salary (coaching, after-school tutoring, and an after-school program). We have an on-site daycare for children ages 1 and up.

JOB TITLE:

Elementary Counselor

QUALIFICATIONS

* Meet all legal requirements established by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for an Elementary Counselor's certificate.

* Successful experience in education, with a minimum of two years as a classroom teacher

* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate.

Building Principal and Director of Student Services

Job Goal

Implement and maintain a comprehensive K-5 school counseling program addressing students' academic, career, and social-emotional development through guidance curriculum, individual planning, responsive services, and system support.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Guidance Curriculum

* Implement the Board-approved elementary counseling curriculum.

* Deliver classroom guidance lessons in collaboration with staff.

* Support integration of social-emotional learning into classroom instruction.

* Promote self-awareness, goal setting, and positive decision-making.

* Introduce career awareness and the connection between academic achievement and future opportunities.

2. Counseling Services

* Provide individual and small group counseling.

* Address concerns, including peer relationships, family changes, behavior, academic challenges, substance abuse prevention, and child abuse awareness/reporting.

* Refer students to appropriate community agencies in consultation with parents/guardians and administration when necessary.

3. Student Advocacy and Support

* Advocate for students' academic and social-emotional needs.

* Assist in identifying and placing students in appropriate programs, including Special Education, Gifted Education, 504 Plans, and other interventions.

* Participate in testing programs and interpret assessment data for staff.

* Attend multidisciplinary meetings and student support conferences.

4. Consultation and Collaboration

* Consult with teachers, parents, and staff regarding student development.

* Conduct conferences with students and families.

* Collaborate with school psychologists, nurses, administrators, and community agencies.

5. Program Development and Professional Responsibilities

* Support effective school operations and promote awareness of the counseling program.

* Evaluate and revise the program in collaboration with the administration.

* Participate in professional development and maintain certification.

* Maintain membership in appropriate professional organizations.

6. Additional Duties

* Perform other duties as assigned by district administration.

EVALUATION:
The performance of this job will be evaluated using a performance-based system in accordance with the Board of Education Policy for certificated personnel.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary, workday, and year to be established by the Board of Education. Counselors will be

employed for fifteen additional days beyond the normal teaching contract year (195/180). If starting in Year 3 (with a Master's as stated in the qualifications) and contracted at 185 days, starting pay could be approximately $48,316.
