Role Summary

The Part‑Time Dean of Teaching and Learning supports the Principals in all areas of the school’s academic program, analyzes learning data, and communicates with key constituencies about St. Matthew’s academic strength and program development. The Dean also assists with faculty development and recruitment as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the documentation and implementation of a robust academic program that appropriately sequences each area of the school’s curriculum from Early Childhood through eighth grade.
  • Develop and document an Early Childhood – 8th grade curriculum review cycle, with faculty‑wide focus on learning standards, instructional practices, or assessment, depending upon the year.
  • Communicate with a variety of constituencies and stakeholders to articulate and promote the strength and direction of the school’s academic program.
  • Work with staff to implement annual student assessment cycles and analyze testing data to understand the learning needs of individual students and to assess the caliber of the school’s overall academic performance relative to other high‑achieving schools.
  • Devise systems and metrics to ensure that St. Matthew’s academic program is delivering student learning outcomes at a high level.
  • Seek to present at conferences and contribute to publications in educational magazines and journals in an effort to share with other educators and to promote St. Matthew’s program excellence.
  • Remain informed and updated regarding new developments in education, curriculum, and instruction and design effective methods for keeping teachers informed of these developments.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Competitive compensation commensurate with experience. Benefits package includes, but is not limited to, a national medical and dental insurance plan, life insurance, short‑term/long‑term disability, and a retirement plan (up to a 9% match). EXPECTED SCHEDULE

3 days weekly – schedule to be determined and coordinated with Division Principals.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in education or school administration;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5‑7 years of experience as a lead teacher.
  • 2‑3 years of experience as an administrative leader, preferably in independent schools.
  • Proven success at working collaboratively in educational leadership.
  • Instructional leader with solid understanding of the developmental and curricular needs of students of the particular division.
  • Must be highly organized and a self‑starter with good initiative, excellent attention to detail, and a creative approach to problem‑solving. Able to multitask, prioritize, and remain level‑headed in any situation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a great team player. A high level of confidentiality and discretion are required. Excellent communications skills are critical, including writing skills.
  • Proficient in technology, adept at learning new skills and effectively utilizes technology for planning and administrative functions.
