POSITION TITLE: Transition Job Coach
PROGRAM: GLASS (Greater Lafayette Area Special Services)
REPORTS TO: GLASS Supervisor
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
WORK CALENDAR: School Year
HOURS: 40 Hours Per Week (while school is in session, position ends on June 1, 2026)
WAGE: $15.40 per hour
BENEFITS: Health, Dental, Vision, PTO
LOCATION: Multiple school and community-based job sites
The Transition Job Coach supports students with disabilities in developing vocational, employability, and independent living skills to successfully transition from school to post-secondary employment and community life. The Job Coach assists students in obtaining and maintaining meaningful employment experiences through direct instruction, job-site support, skill development, and collaboration with school staff, families, and community partners.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESDuties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist students with identifying career interests and securing appropriate school- and community-based employment opportunities.
- Provide direct on-the-job coaching and support to students at employment sites.
- Teach vocational, workplace, and employability skills including attendance, punctuality, communication, task completion, problem-solving, and appropriate workplace behavior.
- Support students in developing resume‑writing, interview, and job application skills.
- Collaborate with special education teachers, transition coordinators, GLASS staff, and families to support student transition goals outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Monitor student progress toward employment and transition goals and maintain appropriate documentation and records.
- Communicate regularly with employers to support student success and address performance concerns.
- Assist with transportation training and community‑based instruction as needed.
- Promote student independence by systematically reducing support as skills are mastered.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with FERPA and district policy.
- Participate in required trainings, staff meetings, and professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the GLASS Supervisor or administration.
- Provide job‑site orientation and task training for students.
- Model appropriate workplace behavior and reinforce safety practices.
- Break down job tasks into teachable steps and provide guided practice.
- Use positive behavioral supports and reinforcement strategies.
- Track student work hours, skill attainment, and performance growth.
- Coordinate with transportation staff and families regarding student schedules.
- Support students in community‑based vocational placements.
A. Education and Certification Requirements
- High school diploma required.
- Minimum of 60 college credit hours required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Education, Human Services, or related field preferred.
- Valid Indiana driver's license required.
Skills and Abilities
- Must possess reliable transportation (mileage reimbursement provided).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community employers.
- Ability to implement instructional and behavioral support strategies.
- Basic computer and data entry skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
- Experience working with high school‑aged students preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.
- Experience in job coaching, vocational training, or community-based instruction preferred.
- Work is performed in school buildings, community job sites, and public environments.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and assist students throughout the workday.
- Must be able to accompany students in community-based settings.
- Salary and work calendar established by the Lafayette School Corporation and GLASS program.
- Continued employment contingent upon satisfactory performance and program needs.
