3.5–6.75 hours student contact days

Starting rate of pay – $12.75 per hour (depending upon education).

Position Title:

Substitute Special Education Paraprofessional

Reports to:

Building principal (overall supervision) with direct supervision by special education teachers (case managers).

• Be at least 18 years of age
• Have a high school diploma
• Experience working with PK‑12 age students (preferred)
• Capable of physically assisting students with special needs as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.)
• Have demonstrated ability to work effectively under the direction of others
• Be capable of working cooperatively with others
• Effectively communicate with individual/groups of students
• Have willingness to assume any responsibilities appropriate for the position
• Support the Mission Statement of the district
• Behave and speak in a professional manner at all times
• Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance
• Attend staff and team meetings
• Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety
• All other duties as assigned

Implement special education or related services for a class and/or to provide direct assistance to students and provide general student supervision.

80% Inclusive Learning Support

• Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the facilitator and classroom teachers.
• Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans for the students and monitor their progress.
• Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
• Work with other professionals, such as speech therapist, social worker, occupational and physical therapists.
• Assist faculty with maintaining student records.
• Support students with emotional or behavior concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills.

10% General Student Supervision

• Monitoring and facilitation in movement of all students in common areas of the school building and grounds (playground, hallways, lunchroom, bus area, classrooms, gym).
• Communication of witnessed student behavior in common areas to faculty if there is a need for reporting student actions.
• Collaborating with other paraprofessionals to ensure the efficient flow of students between academic areas supervised by faculty.

10% Other

• Completion of State and Federal forms required for servicing students with disabilities.
• Other duties as assigned.
