JOB DESCRIPTION (Date Written/ Revised: August 8, 2018)

POSITION TITLE:

Substitute Special Education Paraprofessional

REPORTS TO:

Overseeing building principal, with direct supervision by special education teachers (case managers).

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a high school diploma
  • Experience working with PK-12 age students (preferred)
  • Be capable of physically assisting students with special needs as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.)
  • Have demonstrated ability to work effectively under the direction of others
  • Have demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Effectively communicate with individual/groups of students
  • Have willingness to assume any responsibilities appropriate for the position
  • Support the Mission Statement of the district
  • Behave and speak in a professional manner at all times
  • Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance
  • Attend staff and team meetings
  • Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety
  • All other duties as assigned.
JOB GOAL

Implement special education or related services for a class and/or provide direct assistance to students and provide general student supervision.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Inclusive Learning Support – 80%
    • Assist in educational and social development of students under the direction of the facilitator and classroom teachers.
    • Assist in implementation of Individual Education Plans and monitor progress.
    • Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable full participation.
    • Work with other professionals, such as speech therapist, social worker, occupational and physical therapists.
    • Assist faculty with maintaining student records.
    • Support students with emotional or behavior concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills.
  • General Student Supervision – 10%
    • Monitoring and facilitation in movement of all students in common areas of the school building and grounds.
    • Communication of witnessed student behavior to faculty if reporting needed.
    • Collaborating with other paraprofessionals to ensure efficient flow of students between academic areas supervised by faculty.
  • Other – 10%
    • Completion of State and Federal forms required for servicing students with disabilities.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Evaluation:
Each educational support staff member's job performance shall be evaluated by their supervisor. The evaluation process includes day‑to‑day observations and ongoing supervision/communication. Supervisors shall provide employees an opportunity to discuss performance and address issues that require timely attention.
