Sierra Waldorf School is seeking an Afternoon Lead Teacher in our Early Childhood Program.

The Afternoon Teacher participates in all aspects of the ASC program work, including managing, preparing, and oversight of afternoon activities, supervision of children during regular ASC hours, supervision of independent play, preparing snack, housekeeping and hand work support and duties, helping the children to clean and tidy the classroom and/or yard, child observation and regular mentoring with EC Faculty.

Nestled in the sunny foothills of the Sierra Nevadas, Sierra Waldorf School is a vibrant, fully AWSNA‑accredited school serving approximately 133 students from Preschool through Eighth Grade. Our rural campus in historic Rawhide Valley, just a short drive from Yosemite National Park, offers a beautiful natural setting for children and teachers alike.

We are currently seeking dedicated Early Childhood ASC (After School Care) educators who feel called to honor and protect the wonder of early childhood. Our program nurtures imagination, rhythmic daily life, meaningful work, and ample outdoor play in a warm, home‑like environment.

• Implement the Waldorf Curriculum as mentored by the EC Faculty, which may include but is not limited to the following: holding an awareness of seasonal rhythms and curriculum reflective of the EC classrooms, maintaining classroom/yard cleanliness and order; and supervising outdoor activities.
• Supports hourly EC employees; stepping in to give time for breaks and lunches as needed in EC classrooms.
• Willing to attend one or more early childhood courses a year.
• On‑Call EC Sub‑ability to hold the curriculum, and rhythm of the day when asked to sub within any and all early childhood classes.
• Plans after school snack preparation, making accommodations for food allergies.
• Maintain a regularly scheduled snack planning with the EC Lead Assistant as well as on‑the‑job practical food handling training.
• Implementation of preventive and proactive measures to ensure the children’s location and safety at all times.
• Ensures continuity of the signing out of children by a parent.

• Familiarity with safe food handling and labeling
• Ability to continue the rhythm of the day into ASC
• Organizational skills
• Professionalism – including the ability to keep adult conversations away from the children and personal phones put away while working
• Ability to work as part of a team and take direction with flexibility
• Ability to work independently with children and with groups of children
• Reliable work ethic

• Food preparation for a large group of children

6 core units of early childhood education and enrolled in at least two‑semester units at a college until fully qualified with 12 core units of coursework in early childhood education or child development; at least one course must be in each of the following:

• Child, family, community, or child/family relations
• Child/human growth and development

ASC PM Teacher must pass FBI and Child Abuse Reference Check (CAIC) fingerprinting clearance through Live Scan.

• Minimum one year of ASC experience with SWS.
• Waldorf Early Childhood Training
• Background in Anthroposophy
