Hours per week: 10‑month position, 6–10 hours per week

Training: Appoquinimink School District may require training in Safety‑Care or a similar competency‑based crisis prevention intervention training program.

Compliance – Licensure / Certification / Permit: Failure to meet or maintain any of the licensing or certification minimum qualifications may result in withdrawal or termination. The district reserves the right to assess compliance at any time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work flexible afternoon or evening hours (3:15 pm–5:15 pm or 5 pm–7:45 pm) depending on program.
  • Instructs in‑school, out‑of‑school youths, and/or adults in academic content areas to meet Delaware high‑school graduation requirements or instruct ESL/ABE students to achieve level improvements.
  • Provide appropriate educational opportunities and instruction for each student according to their needs and enrollment program.
  • Prepare lesson plans that match district and state curriculum expectations.
  • Maintain accurate records, tests, reports per Delaware Statutes, Federal Regulations, and School Board Policy.
  • Establish rapport and communication with students, school personnel, administrators, and parents.
  • Create an equitable classroom atmosphere conducive to teaching and learning.
  • Uphold school regulations as identified in teacher/student handbooks and board policy.
  • Collaborate with counselors and staff to support students on a pathway to graduation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the administration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

For new teachers: Must be eligible for Delaware licensure with passing Praxis I or CORE and Praxis II scores.

  • Eligible for State of Delaware Certification as a Secondary English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, or Spanish teacher, or Adult Education certification in ABE/ESL level(s).
  • Special Education experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Delaware State Content Standards, Assessment & Accountability.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; must convey detailed or important spoken instructions accurately and loudly. Normal cognitive abilities required to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting or remaining in a stationary position for long periods. Must be able to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Classroom work in a school environment; may require moving around school.

  • Criminal background check and tuberculosis test.
  • Provide identification (Social Security Card and Driver’s License), documentation of U.S. employment eligibility, I‑9 completion, and Delaware Child Protection Registry paperwork.
