Department of Political Science

Position available:
One or more temporary, part-time lecturers for a pool from which instructors will be considered for appointments as they become available for Fall Semester 2026, and/or Spring Semester 2027.

About the Department

The Political Science Department offers a B.A. in Political Science with the following concentrations:
Pre-Law, Public Affairs and Administration, and Traditional. The department offers a range of lower- and upper-division Political Science and General Education undergraduate courses for political science majors and non-majors.

Duties of the Position

Teaching assignments may be in lower-division or upper-division courses in the following areas:
American Government (such as American Political Institutions, California Politics/Public Policy, among others), Public Law, Political Theory, and Comparative Government. Teaching assignments may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online. Faculty members are expected to perform all duties within the state of California.

Rank and Salary

Lecturer. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Position appointment is subject to budgetary authorization.

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer - Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges. The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.

Date of Appointment

Fall Semester begins August 17, 2026;
Spring Semester begins January 19, 2027.

Qualifications

Minimum M.A. in Political Science;
Ph.D. in Political Science, or a J.D. (law) preferred. Some university teaching experience is required.
