Position Summary
The English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher, under the general supervision of the school principal, supports student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing district-approved curriculum and providing targeted language instruction. The position addresses the individual educational and language needs of students, documents teaching practices and student progress, and creates a flexible, safe, and supportive learning environment. The ELL Teacher communicates effectively with students, parents/guardians, and administrators regarding student progress, expectations, and instructional goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Designs and delivers curriculum aligned with district goals, objectives, and instructional standards.
- Establishes and maintains a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that promotes individualized and small‑group instruction.
- Develops and implements lesson plans and utilizes instructional materials that result in high‑quality learning experiences and maximize instructional time.
- Monitors and assesses student learning on an ongoing basis and adjusts instructional methods to meet individual student needs.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and timely records of student achievement and attendance in accordance with district and building procedures and policies.
- Builds and maintains effective communication with students and parents/guardians to encourage family engagement and support student learning.
- Implements and enforces school and district behavior expectations to promote a positive and effective learning environment.
- Collaborates with colleagues, participates in faculty meetings, and engages in required professional development and district/building initiatives.
- Selects and utilizes appropriate instructional materials, resources, and tools consistent with district curriculum requirements.
- Engages in ongoing professional development to remain current with best practices, instructional strategies, and developments in the educational field.
- Bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Missouri English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) K‑12 certification.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, and student success.
- Spanish fluency preferred.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal(s).
- Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of elementary school reading curriculum and concepts.
- Ability to use learning software applications as needed.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and their parents/guardians.
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
