About
University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences – Full‑time Library Services position in San Marcos, CA.
Responsibilities- Instruct health science students in information literacy skills, including evidence‑based practice, research processes, and the use of medical, nursing, and other health sciences‑related services and resources.
- Create instructional materials in multiple formats (videos, online tutorials, resource guides, Blackboard classes, etc.) for use by students, residents, faculty, and staff.
- Lead library instruction efforts and planning, in collaboration with faculty and Program Directors.
- Collaborate with faculty and library staff to plan, deliver, and assess library and instructional services.
- Provide innovative evidence‑based practice and information literacy instruction.
- Perform advanced subject‑specific professional library work primarily in the graduate disciplines at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences.
- Support the development of inclusive and representative programming and services that meet USAHS strategic priorities.
- Engage in bibliographic searches and the library’s evidence synthesis review service, including systematic reviews.
- Consult with graduate students and faculty on individual or group research projects.
- Assess library needs of health science students, faculty, researchers, and clinicians.
- Train library patrons on electronic resources and citation management tools such as Pub Med/MEDLINE, Pro Quest, CINAHL, Cochrane, Nursing, Dyna Med, and others.
- Serve as Library Liaison with designated campus departments to increase awareness of library resources and services.
- Provide guidance for compliance with the Scholarly Skills Community and related initiatives.
- Advise on depositing publications, data sets, and other research outputs into SOAR@ USA research information hub.
- Stay aware of innovative technologies such as 3D printers, virtual reality, and others.
- Implement collection development policies and procedures.
- Work with faculty members, program directors, and instructional designers to embed library resources into courses and programs.
- Monitor the library’s chat service and general email inbox during assigned hours.
- Process interlibrary loan and other resource requests.
- Assist in maintaining the library website and online content, including guides, videos, and social media.
- Manage collection development and acquisitions for print and electronic resources.
- Catalog materials and maintain authority control in the integrated library system.
- Participate in university committees and local/state/national library association committees; engage in professional development including conferences, training, research, and/or publication.
- Direct the activities of the library services desk.
- Maintain and manage the physical library space on campus.
- Train and supervise the Assistant Librarian and student library workers as applicable.
- Troubleshoot library technology issues (printers, 3‑D printers, VR devices, copiers, computers, etc.) when needed.
- Proctor individual exams per the Library Proctoring Policy.
- Orient new students to library services and collections.
- Maintain borrower records and manage overdue fines.
- Enforce all library policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with other library staff across campuses to enhance the library experience.
- Contribute to university‑wide library projects and the Library Long Range Plan.
- Other duties as assigned.
- May be required to travel.
- Supervises Assistant Librarian (where applicable) or student workers (where applicable).
- Reports to:
Director of Library Services. - Salary: $70,304 - $83,160.
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (or equivalent) from an ALA‑accredited program or foreign equivalent.
- Two or more years of library experience, preferably in a health sciences library or health care environment, including knowledge of library information management systems, cataloging, reference services, online literature searching, acquisitions/collection development, policies, instruction, and information literacy.
