Oakland Leaf was founded in 2001 by a collective of East Oakland educators intent on empowering youth voice. For the past 20+ years, Oakland Leaf has evolved into a highly regarded leader in the fields of youth development and out-of-school time learning.
Oakland Leaf facilitates culturally relevant out-of-school time programming for approximately 1,000 K-12 East Oakland students through seven after school programs at public elementary and middle schools across East Oakland, one paid internship programs for high school students, and two 5-week summer camps – one for elementary children and one for middle school youth. Our programming emphasizes social and emotional learning, creative expression, critical thinking, leadership development, social justice, college and career readiness, and includes a diverse range of enrichment opportunities including S.T.E.M. activities, sports, poetry, visual arts, dance, literacy, community impact projects, and more.

Roots ProgramThe Roots program will equip high school interns with social emotional leadership and professional skills to build self-awareness and to become future educators. Roots interns assist at Oakland Leaf after school site two to three times a week and participate in twice a month workshops facilitated by Internship Coordinator.
Summary of PositionThe Internship Coordinator provides overall management of Oakland Leaf’s Root program including supervision of interns, maintaining program budget, ensuring implementation of policies and procedures, and coordinating operations of the specific program. This position reports to the Director of Community Programs.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities- Manage implementation of Roots Internship operations, including intern recruitment, selection, registration, attendance, and exit; program design and curriculum development; parent engagement; facility and supply logistics; and special events and activities coordination.
- Manage implementation of Roots Internship program design and curriculum that reflects Oakland Leaf’s vision, mission, values and needs of the community
- Manage implementation of the program improvement process, including data collection, performance and outcome analysis, professional learning, and program improvement
- Plan and facilitate monthly intern workforce development workshops including but not limited to resume building, interviewing 101, college and career planning
- Coach and support interns’ progress towards post-secondary education and workforce readiness goals.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with students and parent/guardians
- Serve as liaison with the college and career school counselors, after school program managers, and other community partners
- Participate in all Oakland Leaf meetings, events, and activities designated by the Director of Community Program
- Other duties determined by the Director of Community Programs.
