Job Description

Middle School Computer Literacy Educator:
Architect of Digital Agency

The Opportunity:

Navigating the Future

In Ferguson-Florissant, we know that our students are "digital natives," but our mission is to make them "digital masters." We are looking for a forward‑thinking Computer Literacy Teacher who understands that technology is the universal language of the modern workforce. You aren't just teaching software; you are teaching critical thinking, online safety, and the creative power of code and digital design.

As part of the FFSD "New Chapter," you will lead a classroom that serves as a high‑tech hub for innovation. If you are ready to help 7th and 8th graders navigate the digital world with confidence, ethics, and skill, your next chapter starts here.

Role Summary

As a Middle School Computer Literacy Teacher, you will inspire and support students in reaching their technological and academic goals. You will deliver high‑quality, project‑based instruction that covers essential digital skills—including keyboarding, office productivity suites, introductory coding, and digital citizenship. Working in a supportive, student‑centered environment, you will empower every scholar to use technology as a tool for problem‑solving, communication, and creative expression.

Why

You’ll Succeed (Qualifications)
  • Certified Professional: Valid Missouri Teaching Certification in Business (5-9 or 9-12),
Computer Science (K-12), or a related field with the appropriate Middle School endorsement.
  • Degree Requirements: Bachelor of Arts or Science degree (required);
    Master’s degree, preferred.
  • Tech Visionary: You stay current with emerging trends—from AI and cloud computing to cybersecurity—and know how to make them accessible to 12‑to‑14‑year‑olds.
  • Equity Champion: You are committed to closing the digital divide, ensuring every student has the skills to thrive in a tech‑driven economy.
  • Relational Expert: You enjoy the dynamic energy of middle‑schoolers and can bridge the gap between their "social" tech use and "professional" tech application.
Your Impact (Key Duties)
  • Empower Digital Creators: Design and lead engaging lessons that challenge students to create—not just consume—digital content, from websites to interactive media.
  • Foster Responsibility: Implement a robust Digital Citizenship curriculum that focuses on online safety, privacy, and the ethical use of information.
  • Ignite Computational Thinking: Introduce foundational logic and coding concepts that prepare students for advanced high‑school computer science pathways.
  • Collaborate for Success: Partner with core academic teachers to integrate technology into Science, Math, and ELA projects, providing real‑world context for digital skills.
  • Master the Tools: Ensure students are proficient in the district’s primary software platforms, preparing them for the rigors of high‑school and beyond.
Your Leadership Partners
  • Primary Support: Building Principal
  • Instructional Support: District CTE Coordinator and Instructional Technology Coaches
The Logistics of Your Success
  • Classification: Exempt, Certified Staff
  • Work Year: 10‑Month Academic Calendar (187 contract days)
  • Salary: Based on the Teacher Salary Schedule, determined by experience and education level.
  • Benefits: Full‑time eligibility (Medical, Dental, Vision, & PSRS/PEERS Retirement).
The FFSD Advantage:
Total Rewards & Support
  • Innovation in Play: Access to modern computer labs, 1:1 student devices, and the latest educational software and platforms.
  • Professional Growth: Tuition reimbursement and district‑provided PD focused on the latest in EdTech and computer science pedagogy.
  • Health & Heart: 100% district‑paid medical, dental, and vision plans, plus access to our Ferg‑Flor Care district health clinic.
  • Mentorship for Success: Every new middle school teacher is paired with a veteran mentor to help navigate the transition into the FFSD family.
