504 District Coordinator Job Posting

Position Summary

Responsible for all matters related to the development/implementation of 504 plans for students Preschool – Grade 12 and student intervention as it applies to academic and behavioral programming. This position also requires development and participation with the Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS). Gathering and reviewing data to present to the principal/central office to make cultural decisions to support the learners in the building will be a critical function of this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and monitor the district’s 504 plans to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and Michigan Department of Education (MDE) regulations.
  • Develop relationships, interventions, and support to the at‑risk student population.
  • Supports the strategic plan of the District.
  • Works with teachers and other school staff as well as principals in resolving at‑risk student attendance, academic and behavioral issues.
  • Researches and plans for effective implementation of tiered affective intervention supports.
  • Facilitates meetings with staff as needed.
  • Develops protocols to assist with at‑risk students to ensure appropriate support and evaluate student success in Tier 2 and Tier 3.
  • Reviews progress monitoring data regularly and evaluates the efficacy of intervention programs for students that are receiving Tier 2 and Tier 3 support.
  • Supports and implements the District 504 policy.
  • Facilitates Section 504 evaluations and development of Section 504 plans.
  • Follows established procedures as it pertains to 504 evaluation, implementation, and monitoring of 504 plans.
  • Provides leadership and direction to District administration related to the 504 process and procedures.
  • Serve as a daily resource to the building administrators, teachers and staff regarding Section 504.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school building and other district staff regarding Section 504 issues.
  • Performs all other duties as requested by the Superintendent and/or designee.
Qualifications

Education and Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required.
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a special education endorsement preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience, preferred.
  • Experience in program coordination, compliance reporting, and professional development preferred.
  • Experience providing direct EL or bilingual instruction required.
  • Experience coordinating or administering state or federal language proficiency assessments preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of Section 504.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide quality instructional leadership and management.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrates a conceptual understanding of human growth and development, learning theories, and teaching methodologies.
  • Demonstrates skill and sensitivity in working with all members of the school community.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of MTSS (academic and behavioral).
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of FERPA and student data privacy standards.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret student performance data.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with diverse students, staff, and families.
  • Ability to maintain regular, reliable, and on‑site attendance consistent with district expectations and collective bargaining agreement provisions.
