Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in cosmetology, including hair cutting, styling, coloring, chemical treatments, skincare.
  • Develop and update lesson plans aligned with state board requirements and industry standards.
  • Integrate theory with hands‑on demonstrations and supervised student practice.
  • Develop, update, and post course syllabus and instructional materials in a timely manner.
  • Maintain student discipline through effective classroom management.
  • Assess student progress through practical exams, written tests, and assignments.
  • Provide constructive feedback and individualized support.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and competencies.
  • Prepare students for state board licensing exams.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom and salon lab environment.
  • Ensure proper use and sanitation of tools and equipment in compliance with state regulations.
  • Supervise students during clinical/lab work with clients.
  • Maintain and submit accurate records as required by the college and Louisiana Board of Cosmetology.
  • Stay current with cosmetology trends, techniques, and products.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff on student success strategies.
  • Engage with local salons and industry partners for student placement opportunities.
  • Complete the required onboarding and compliance training, including KnowBe4 training, upon hire.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and state licensing requirements.
Qualifications
  • A Baccalaureate degree in the discipline and at least two (2) years of directly related occupational experience, OR
  • An associate degree in the discipline and three (3) years of occupational experience and skill in the teaching discipline with verifiable academic credentials, qualifications, or competencies appropriate for teaching the course content, OR
  • A relevant diploma or certificate in the discipline and four (4) years of occupational experience and skill in the teaching discipline with verifiable academic credentials, qualifications, or competencies appropriate for teaching the course content, OR
  • At least five (5) years of occupational experience and skill in the teaching discipline with verifiable qualifications or competencies appropriate for teaching the course content.

* Academic coursework, work experience, licenses, certifications, credentials, competencies, or other experiences appropriate for teaching the course content must be documented and justified.

** Faculty must additionally demonstrate steady progress to attain an associate degree to be considered for continued employment. Steady progress is defined as the successful completion of at least one college course per semester, including the summer, or nine credits per academic year.

Licensing Requirements

Must possess a current and active Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology Instructor License.

Preferred Experience
  • Teaching experience in post‑secondary education.
  • Demonstrated computer knowledge and skills as they relate to specific position requirement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
