Social Studies Traditional and STAR Teacher

Summary

The job of a Classroom Teacher is to support the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibilities for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators to address instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress.

• Collaborate with all stakeholders (students, parents, colleagues, etc.) to establish and maintain leadership and positive relationships, focusing on high expectations and continuous improvement for student learning.
• Design instruction (lesson plans, individualized instruction, diverse learning styles/needs, etc.) to ensure all students are engaged and participating in both individual and classroom learning objectives.
• Develop and guide learning in partnership with students (classroom mission, learning goals, strategies and processes, student recognition and celebrations, etc.) to ensure continuous improvement aligned with state and district standards.
• Evaluate individual student and class performance (analyzing assessment data and other comparative data) to gauge and adjust instruction for improved performance.
• Implement current best practice instruction and resources (focus on student needs/goals, classroom priorities, etc.) to enhance learning in alignment with state and district standards.
• Maintain documentation and required reports (student data, personal teaching certification, etc.) to comply with site, district, policy, administrative, state, and federal regulations.
• Manage classroom structure and procedures (activities, behavioral expectations, positive classroom culture, etc.) to establish a safe and orderly learning environment supporting student achievement.
• Model positive behaviors (professional/ethical public image, relational skills, appropriate communication, manners, diversity, mutual respect, etc.) to promote appropriate social and interpersonal behavior in line with district goals.
• Oversee assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers to ensure an effective classroom structure supporting the teacher and students.
• Participate in a variety of meetings (team/building meetings, professional growth opportunities, parent/teacher conferences, etc.) to convey and gather information required for job functions.
• Respond to emergency situations (building emergency protocol, suspected child abuse or substance abuse, etc.) to resolve immediate safety concerns and/or direct to appropriate personnel.

• Bachelor's degree required. Current Louisiana teacher certification.

New employees to EBRPSS (or current employees new to a position) must use the Verifent website to verify qualifying years of experience outside of EBRPSS, aligned to the job description. Experience verifications must be submitted to the Office of Human Resources within the first six months of employment to be eligible for retroactive payment.
