Job DescriptionThe Valley Park School District is seeking a talented educator for a long‑term substitute teaching assignment as a Middle School Science Teacher.
DescriptionValley Park Middle School seeks a highly qualified, student‑centered Long‑Term Substitute Science Teacher. VPMS is committed to challenging students to achieve academic excellence and personal success by providing personalized, high‑quality instruction and a challenging, relevant curriculum within a warm, caring, student‑centered environment.
The Successful Candidate- Is knowledgeable about middle school philosophy and the developmental needs of adolescents and will be able to present the curriculum using a problem‑centered approach.
- Demonstrates appropriate long and short‑term preparation for classroom instruction.
- Holds high expectations for all students and sees themselves as facilitators of student learning.
- Organizes and uses a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technology to maximize the learning of each student, individually and in group settings.
- Assesses student progress, provides students and parents with specific feedback, and uses the results to adjust instruction as needed.
- Provides opportunities for academic support and challenge.
- Takes responsibility for teaching the District curriculum as outlined in the curriculum documents.
- Demonstrates an understanding of how knowledge in their subject areas is created, organized, and linked to other disciplines and life experiences.
- Keeps abreast of current developments in their field and continues to deepen understanding of the discipline(s).
- Establishes and maintains a functional, attractive, orderly, and safe classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and builds a sense of community.
- Develop and follow lesson plans and instructional materials.
- Provide individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and class.
- Ensure instruction aligns with engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
- Communicate regularly with parents.
- Establish and maintain standards of behavior to achieve a safe and effective learning atmosphere.
- Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare grade reports as needed.
- Identify student needs, make appropriate referrals, and develop strategies for individualized education plans.
- Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of students’ work.
- Other duties as assigned by the building administration.

Certification- Missouri Substitute Teaching Certificate – REQUIRED
- Valid teaching certificate in the State of Missouri for Middle School Science – PREFERRED
- Bachelor’s Degree – PREFERRED
