Cal Poly Humboldt is located ina world‑class geological laboratoryon California’s North Coast. We are the only CSU located along the active Cascadia subduction zone and the south Cascades volcanic arc. Our proximity to the Mendocino Triple Junction, Six Rivers National Forest, and Trinity Alps puts students in a position to learn about a variety of dynamic geologic processes, including tectonics, earthquakes, volcanism, climate change, landslides, active rivers, and rapid erosion.

Humboldt Geology'sfaculty and staff support students through hands‑on teaching in the field and laboratory, inclusive participation in meaningful research experiences, and academic advising ranging from coursework to career planning. Our program is recognized internationally, and employers and graduate programs routinely seek out our students for a range of careers in geology. We offer two majors, a Bachelor of Science in Geology and a Bachelor of Arts in Geology with a Geosciences concentration.

Additionally, we offer a Master of Science degree in Environmental Systems
- Geology. We also offer a minor in Geology.

Water Planet, Earthquake Country, General Geology, Field Geology of the Western US, Earth Systems History, Geology of California, Earth Resources & Environmental Change, Geomorphology, Petrology, Structural Geology, Sedimentology/Stratigraphy, Professional Development, and Topics in Advanced Physical Geology. Courses require a minimum of a M.A. or M.S. in Geoscience or related field and successful teaching experience, academic, or professional work related to the appropriate field. Preferred qualifications include:
PhD in Geosciences or related field with emphasis on topics of proposed assignment; successful teaching experience, academic or professional work related to the assignment topic, and; expertise in assignment topic.

Salary:Dependent on qualifications and experience.

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer – Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

Appointees are typically placed at the beginning of the range. The full‑time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
