Position Overview:

The Department of Social Work seeks a temporary Full‑Time Practicum Liaison/Lecturer to support our new Extended Master of Social Work program for working professionals. The position is a twelve‑month, full‑time lecturer appointment reporting to the Practicum Director. The Practicum Liaison will teach practicum classes, coordinate and supervise student practicums, and collaborate with agency supervisors to maintain and grow practicum placements.

  • Coordinate and integrate practicum education for the Extended MSW program, ensuring compliance with the Council on Social Work Education standards.
  • Develop and implement a continuous, comprehensive practicum education program evaluation plan.
  • Recruit qualified agencies for student placements.
  • Co‑administer practicum‑related issues with funding program coordinators (e.g., Title IV‑E, CalSWEC II grants).
  • Assist with maintenance of files on practicum agency agreements and letters of understanding.
  • Participate in resolution of placement problems when necessary.
  • Update and maintain the practicum manual and develop/ update practicum seminar syllabi.
  • Plan and implement training seminars for agency practicum instructors.
  • Attend faculty meetings and other departmental or university meetings.
  • Interface with the social service community and surrounding universities to maintain and build the practicum education program.
  • Engage in teaching, advising, and service at departmental, college, university, and community levels. Teaching may be in‑person, hybrid, or fully online.

Qualifications:

Required: Master of Social Work degree from a CSWE accredited institution; at least two years of full‑time post‑master’s social work experience; experience in teaching, mentoring, and community service that demonstrates commitment to diversity and excellence.

  • Preferred:
    Interest and experience in undergraduate education and experience supporting a student body that is diverse, underrepresented, and first‑generation.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster an inclusive learning environment.

Salary and Appointment:
Full‑time, 12‑month lecturer salary is determined by educational preparation and experience. This grant‑based position is funded by the California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) Social Work Education Capacity Expansion program, covering the period 1/27/2023 – 6/30/2027 (total award: $2.4 million). Salary will generally be near the minimum of the applicable range. The appointment is temporary, full‑time, and subject to budgetary authorization.

Location:

East Bay – responsibilities may require travel to both the Hayward campus and the Concord Center, and travel to practicum sites as needed.

Condition(s) of Employment:
The University requires lawful work authorization and completion of a background check (criminal records, credential verification, etc.). A conditional offer may be rescinded upon adverse findings.
