Paraprofessional – Special Education DepartmentThe West Platte School District, located in Weston, Missouri, seeks a strong and caring individual to fill a Paraprofessional position in our Special Education Department for the school year.
QualificationsA minimum of 60 college hours with Missouri substitute teacher certification. A Bachelor's Degree with Missouri teacher certification is preferred. Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Alternatives may be found appropriate or acceptable by the Board.

Essential Job Functions- Tutor individuals or small groups.
- Escort the class to other instructional areas.
- Operate instructional equipment for the classroom.
- Assist students with mobility needs (may involve lifting, toileting, etc.).
- Gather and produce instructional material for use in the classroom.
- Assist with appropriate behavioral intervention techniques as directed by the supervising teacher.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding students and families’ academic and social needs under FERPA and IDEA.
- Assist the teacher in planning daily lessons and activities.
- Aid in administering tests related to the curriculum.
- Maintain consistent and regular attendance.
- Assist with the implementation and monitoring of IEPs under the teacher’s direction.
- Assist in implementing the curriculum and measuring demonstrated competencies by students.
- Collaborate with other staff to meet the holistic needs of assigned students.
- Implement accommodations and modifications to the curriculum as needed.
- Keep a daily log of student academic and social progress.
- Maintain a professional development log of hours completed.
- Supervise child transportation to and from outside placements.
- Assist with field trips and class supervision.
- Help with seat work or individual student work.
- Assist with preparation of bulletin boards, learning centers, etc.
- Arrange instructional materials for the classroom.
- Attend meetings and training as requested.
- May perform routine clerical duties such as filing and typing.
- May be assigned to specific assignments such as study halls, cafeteria supervision, health room, playground supervision, in‑school suspension, after‑school detention, etc.
- Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress, and overall professional manner for the work setting.
- Show effective human relations and communication skills.
- Adhere to all district rules, regulations, and policies.
- Follow good safety practices.
- Perform all other duties as required or assigned.
The position frequently requires stooping, bending, kneeling, using therapeutic restraint, lifting students, and requires both close and distance vision.
Conditions and EnvironmentThe role is primarily in a noisy, active school environment and may involve occasional outdoor work, including loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess.
