The general duties of this position will be to assist the Director of Bands with all instrumental programs and instrumental performing groups (including but not limited to Bulldog Marching Band, Concert Band, Pep Band and ensembles), as well as responsibility for recruiting students and developing relationships with area high school directors. Additional responsibilities will include teaching applied music lessons during the regular fall/spring semesters and possibly summer and/or evening sessions.

Duties will also include monitoring academic progress of band members and promoting student retention.

Reports to:

Coordinator of Academic Programs, Goodman Campus

Assist the Band Director with the coordination of the instrumental music program and direct musical performances as needed (i.e. marching band, concert band, pep band, and ensembles).

Support the growth of instrumental music programs and ensembles through student recruitment and retention.

Prepare course materials, organize classes, keep student records, maintain classrooms and equipment, and perform other duties related to the instructional process. (courses can include applied instrumental lessons, selected academic music courses and other musical groups)

Attend faculty meetings and technology training sessions.

Cooperate in the development of curriculum, preparation of syllabi, and the selection of textbooks and materials.

Participate in curriculum development, program review, and creating student learning outcomes.

Employ available instructional technology to meet diverse student needs.

Monitor academic progress of band members and promote student retention.

Perform all related and implied duties as may be directed.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in music/music education. Experience or course work using multimedia presentations is preferred. Consideration will be given to equivalent education, related work experience, demonstrated competencies in the discipline and achievements that contribute to effective teaching and student learning outcomes.
Experience in percussion performance, instruction, or ensemble leadership is preferred.

2. Applicants with community college teaching and Canvas experience preferred.

3. Applicants must possess an understanding and commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy.

4. Applicants must have excellent references from previous employers and/or professors.
