Sign Language Interpreter

Qualifications:

Eligible for Missouri certification and licensure-Missouri Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Demonstrated signing skills sufficient to meet student needs. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.

Reports To:

Building Principal and/or Executive Director of Special Services

Job Goal:
The interpreter facilitates communication between students with hearing impairments and hearing people in the school community (teachers, students, administrators, other personnel).

Performance Responsibilities:

• Through sign language, facilitate communication between students with hearing impairments and hearing people in the school community.
• Assist special educators and regular education staff to facilitate student success in regular classrooms.
• Assists Special Education Teachers to implement special education and related services.
• Interprets for district parents or patrons with hearing impairments for school related business during school hours.
• Interpret accurately without personal bias. Perform other duties as directed by the principal or supervising teacher which are related to facilitating success for students with disabilities.
