Location: Louisiana

This position is a full-time 12-month, unclassified, in-person staff position located on-site at our Bossier Campus. This is a grant funded position.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching English Language Learners/English as a Second Language classes is required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication is required.
  • Experience in and understanding of working with students from diverse populations is preferred.
  • Experience working in higher education or adult education is preferred.
  • A commitment to ongoing education/continuing professional development is required.

  • Excellent organizational skills; independent; self‑motivated; and able to work in a fast‑paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to multi‑task, work under deadlines, and prioritize projects/work schedule to meet deadlines with high levels of efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ability to work flexible day time and limited evening hours in response to program needs is required.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
Physical Requirements
  • Must have use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear and handle or feel objects and controls.
Responsibilities
  • Develops, plans, and delivers effective English as a Second Language (ESL) lessons as needed to prepare adult students to competently and successfully communicate with other native and non-native English speakers.
  • Provides a variety of classroom experiences including small group instruction, teacher‑directed instruction, self‑paced instruction, individual or small‑group tutoring, and/or computer‑assisted instruction to meet the needs of the learner toward achieving individual academic goals.
  • Provides a variety of classroom instruction and tutoring opportunities including (but not limited to) mornings, afternoons, evenings, and distance learning according to program needs and/or as assigned by supervisor.
  • Tracks, documents, and maintains records related to student progress including (but not limited to): attendance, pre‑ and post‑assessment (TABE CLAS‑E) results, eligibility for membership in the National Adult Education Honor Society (NAEHS) and other metrics of progress toward student goals.
  • Submits timely and accurate National Reporting System (NRS) records to the appropriate designates.
  • Oversees and assists with compliance of grant requirements in areas of professional development, student attendance, student retention, documentation, and assessment.
  • Collaborates with College Transition Programs’ instructors in planning instructional strategies for students.
  • Collaborates and assists in the selection of appropriate instructional materials used in the classroom.
  • Collaborates with all College Transition Programs’ staff and instructors on innovative and exciting ways to increase student access and success.
  • Regularly conducts individual advising appointments with students and makes thoughtful and appropriate referrals in the interest of serving individual student academic goals.
  • Develops and implements a remediation plan for students scoring at NRS Levels 1 or 2 in Conversational English proficiency on federal/state‑approved English Language assessments (TABE CLAS‑E).
  • Plans and conducts periodic formal and informal evaluations to assess the need for positive, student‑centric changes in the strategies associated with College Transition Programs.
  • Plans and develops special projects as approved and/or assigned by supervisor.
  • Serves as a resource to ESL instruction and curriculum.
  • Regularly provides students with guidance regarding relevant and applicable policies in the interest of transitioning students into college and career educational pathways.
  • Maintains a high level of competence and expertise in the area of Adult Education, specifically, English language acquisition instruction and curriculum design.
  • Demonstrates innovative teaching methods and materials.
  • Provides leadership in the development and implementation of the ESL program.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
