Summary

Removes barriers to proper school attendance for the youth of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System and thereafter monitors proper school adjustment and attendance; serves as a link between families, the community and the assigned school of students; offers professional services to schools in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists community agencies in diagnosing, prescribing, and implementing effective programs designed to meet the needs of each youth.
  • Creates an awareness of the problems that adversely affect proper school attendance.
  • Renders consultative service to other school personnel, parents, and the community relative to the problems affecting attendance and adjustments.
  • Supervises, develops, and interprets research data on the attendance and adjustment of youth.
  • Enforces the Louisiana Compulsory School Attendance Law.
  • Refers truant children to the appropriate governmental agencies.
  • Initiates and supervises a positive attendance program in the schools.
  • Prepares reports as indicated by the State Supervisor of Child Welfare & Attendance, School Superintendent, Associate Superintendent of Instructional Support Services, Director of Federal Programs and Director of Child Welfare & Attendance.
  • Provides the Associate Superintendent of Instructional Support Services and/or the Director of Child Welfare & Attendance with reports and information that will enable him to evaluate any program under the supervision of the Supervisors of Child Welfare and Attendance.
  • Monitors and assists school personnel and/or principals to ascertain if students are in a properly assigned attendance zone.
  • Develops positive relations between the school and community.
  • Approves/denies extenuating circumstances for students who do not meet attendance requirements.
  • Reviews attendance record keeping of teachers.
  • Conducts home visits as needed.
  • Carries out assigned projects and/or duties as assigned by the Associate Superintendent of Instructional Support Services and/or the Director of Child Welfare & Attendance.

Other duties as assigned that are related to the functions of the position.

Essential Functions / Qualifications / Requirements

Education and Experience

Must possess a master's degree, certification in Child Welfare & Attendance or meet the requirements for Educational Leadership Licensure endorsement. Experience as a school administrator is preferred.
