Aide II, 7 Hr. / Aide II, Bilingual (Special Education)
Aide II position for the school year. Supports students with disabilities in accessing curriculum and acquiring adaptive, social-emotional, and behavioral skills.
Qualifications- High school diploma or passage of Kern High School District proficiency test.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to assist with reading, writing, mathematics, or reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
- Desire to support students in an educational environment.
- Ability to work with adults and children, respect confidential matters, and work collaboratively.
- Bilingual ability may be required, depending on assignment.
To support students with disabilities in accessing curriculum in academic areas, individualized adaptive skills, social-emotional supports, and/or behavioral needs in order to benefit from their educational placement.
Performance Responsibilities- Work with special education teachers and staff in an educational setting.
- Assist in developing desirable social skills, habits, morals, and physical and mental health for all pupils; assist special education teacher in implementing IEP goals and accommodations.
- Reinforce instruction introduced by students’ general and/or special education teachers under teacher supervision.
- Check, care for, prepare, and arrange instructional materials and equipment.
- Assist in implementing classroom management procedures and Individualized Behavior Intervention Plans.
- Perform yard duty, first aid, and physical education periods; assist with lifting, moving, and positioning students to provide personal care including feeding, dressing, grooming, toileting, diapering, therapy, and specialized health care procedures; assist students with wheelchairs, braces, or orthopedic equipment; may be required to use mechanical equipment.
- Foster and encourage independence of all students; work with small groups under direction of teacher or other certificated staff.
- Monitor students to ensure safety in all school environments, including classroom, playground, cafeteria, bus, and parent pick-up/drop-off areas, and all school-related activities and locations.
- Maintain valid first aid and CPR certification.
- Assist children during lunch and snack periods; check and maintain lavatories.
- Maintain Pro Act certification and assist with Pro Act Crisis Intervention as needed.
- Model personal and professional values of equity, integrity, caring, collaboration, and accountability.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
$18.82 - $30.68 per hour.
EvaluationPerformance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the District's “Improvement of Professional Services” handbook, Board Policies and Procedures, and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable.
