Position Title: Teacher Assistant
Reports To: Building Administrator
Position Summary: Teacher Assistant (Missouri Teaching Certification issued by DESE required). The Teacher Assistant provides instructional, behavioral, and supervisory support to certified staff to enhance student learning, promote a safe, orderly, effective educational environment, and support intended learning outcomes. This role includes classroom assistance, group instruction, and support for student needs across diverse academic, social, and emotional domains.
In addition to classroom support, the Teacher Assistant assists with student supervision in non‑instructional settings such as hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, arrival, and dismissal, reinforcing expectations, promoting positive behavior, and supporting consistent routines.
Key responsibilities include maintaining confidentiality, supporting classroom and building operations, and following district policies and procedures established by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for support staff.
Essential Functions- Participates in daily and long‑range lesson and classroom activity planning.
- Conducts learning exercises with small groups of children.
- Guides children in working and playing harmoniously with peers.
- Alerts the teacher to the special needs of individual children.
- Provides escort assistance for children as necessary.
- Assists teacher(s) in maintaining student work and study areas.
- Assists with supervision of children during meal times and play periods.
- Collects and displays suitable material for educational displays.
- Must be physically capable of running, jumping, walking, standing, sitting, and lifting.
Required: Missouri Teaching Certification issued by DESE.
Desired: Ability and personality to work with colleagues, teachers, and other staff.
Pay Scale$17.19 – $20.95 per hour, based on previous related experience.
RequirementsMust hold a current Missouri Teaching Certification issued by DESE.
