Parents As Teachers Parent Educator

Applicants must have a strong working knowledge of child development and best practice in early childhood education.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 60 college degree in early childhood development or a related field of study preferred and/or documented supervised experience working with young children and their parents.
  • Valid driver's license.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities As Parents As Teachers Parent Educator

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential duties.

  • Successful completion of Parents as Teachers Foundational & Model Implementation Training and Foundational 2 Training, and certification as a parent educator.
  • Maintain current certification as a parent educator by completing the required professional development hours for years of service.
  • Provide parent education and support through family home visits implementing the Foundational and Foundational 2 Curriculum.
  • Demonstrate knowledge about what promotes optimal parent-child interaction and infant, toddler, and child development.
  • Possess effective communication skills and ability to develop trusting relationships with parents.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Family Well-Being and Protective Factors.
  • Assess family needs and provide developmentally appropriate information, guidance, and support to parents.
  • Assist the PAT Coordinator at various community events supporting families and/or young children.
  • Complete required documentation for home visits, attendance records for PAT events, screening summaries, and all essential records required by the program, in a timely and comprehensive manner.
  • Learn to administer developmental and health screenings protocols.
  • Support families in seeking appropriate resources based on family needs and goals.
  • Actively recruit families to participate in the program.
