Position description:
The Department of Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) and the Marine Biology Program invite applications for a full‑time Assistant Professor of Teaching with the potential to achieve security of employment (equivalent to tenure). Exceptional candidates with expertise and teaching experience in any of the following focal areas—emphasizing marine systems—will be considered:
Microbiology, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Data Science.
Approximately 200 principal investigators at SIO conduct interdisciplinary research protecting the planet and advancing solutions to environmental challenges. Our undergraduate program emphasizes the biology of marine organisms and the processes that affect them, integrating laboratory and field courses that promote discovery and data interpretation. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to teaching, lead course development, and engage in service, mentorship, and scholarly activity that advances pedagogical practice.
Teaching Professors at UC San Diego are expected to teach 24 units over the academic year, innovate instruction, and coordinate curriculum and technology initiatives. Candidates should be prepared to teach core and advanced lecture and/or laboratory courses in the marine biology major, with a particular interest in marine microbiology, cell biology, genomics, bioinformatics, and/or developmental biology.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application): Ph.D. degree (or advancement to candidacy) in oceanography, marine biology, microbiology, cell biology, developmental biology, bioinformatics, genomics, data science, or a related discipline.
