Aboutthe Position
The Community Library Specialist (CLS) reports to a branch manager and provides library services for patrons of all ages in small, rural communities. The CLS supports daily branch operations at Stinson Beach Library and Inverness Library. The primary duties include staffing a circulation/service desk, providing reference and reader‑advisory services, offering computer and technology support, developing and implementing inclusive programming, attending community events, building strong relationships with local organizations and patrons, and participating in branch, regional and systemwide library meetings and committee activities.

- Additional duties: maintaining the library’s collections, coordinating a rotating art gallery wall, and supervising volunteers.
- Hours:
66 hours biweekly.
- Monday 9:30 am – 6 pm
- Tuesday 11:30 am – 8 pm
- Wednesday 10:00 am – 2 pm
- Friday 9:30 am – 6 pm
- Saturday 9:30 am – 5 pm
- Additional duties: maintaining the library’s collections, working closely with the local TK‑grade 2 school to provide educational equity support, and supervising volunteers.
- Hours:
56.25 hours biweekly.
- Monday 2:00 pm – 7 pm
- Tuesday 9:30 am – 3 pm
- Wednesday 9:30 am – 3 pm
- Friday 10:00 am – 6 pm
- Saturday 9:30 am – 2 pm
We are looking for a self‑motivated, service‑oriented professional who can work independently but is also willing to contribute to the West Marin libraries team by demonstrating flexibility, adaptability and collaboration.

- Clear and effective communication skills, written and verbal.
- Proficiency with computers and technology, and exceptional organizational skills.
- Experience assessing and responding to community needs.
- Bilingual skills in English/Spanish are desirable but not required.
Candidates are required to undergo fingerprinting by the Sheriff’s Department and to pass a Department of Justice Live Scan background check prior to appointment.
Bilingual Testing/CertificationCandidates applying for a bilingual differential must possess and demonstrate proficiency in both Spanish and English before appointment. A bilingual proficiency exam will be administered.

- Recruiting, motivating, training, coaching, and retaining volunteers.
- Adult literacy or early childhood learning terminology, theory, and practice (if assigned to the respective programs).
- Operate a small branch library or outreach program independently.
- Answer or direct reference questions from patrons.
- Interpret, apply, and explain library policies and procedures.
- Operate automated library equipment, systems, and technology.
- Advise patrons on library computer use and internet searches.
- Perform basic arithmetic, collect fees, accept cash, make change, and deposit funds.
- Supervise staff, train and oversee volunteers.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships.
