Hours:
6.5 per day, 178 days per year. 7 hours per day for 4 days first year, 2 days after until certification.
Pay: PSE Salary Schedule Level 5 - $25.40
Important InformationOfficial Hire Date based on School Board approval; may change.
Required Training:
Right Response Training within 3-5 months. Must complete Fundamental Course of Studies (FCS) and General Para educator Certificate per State. Para educator Certificate Program depends on State funding.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalent, and one of:
- Successfully passed the ETS Para Pro test or Pearson Paraprofessional assessment.
- AA degree or higher.
- Earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits.
- Completion of registered apprenticeship program offered by Washington State Dept. of Labor & Industries.
- Successful completion of The Master Teacher Inc. Para educator Online Training Program.
Assist certificated staff with instructional and non‑instructional activities for students with disabilities in an integrated Kindergarten classroom, including individual or small‑group instruction, basic life skills, and behavior supervision.
Essential FunctionsReports to school principal or assigned administrator; receives guidance from certificated staff.
Mental DemandsFrequent interruptions, deal with wide range of student behaviors, academic abilities, and physical or emotional disabilities.
Physical DemandsExposure to infectious diseases, noise, lifting and positioning students and equipment up to 10 pounds, extended periods in non‑routine positions, potential exposure to biting and bodily fluids, outdoor work in inclement weather.
Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience: Experience working with school‑age children and special needs students preferred.

: Demonstrated reading, writing, communication. Knowledge of basic subjects. Warm and confident student interactions. Flexibility, organization, instruction. Behavior management. Instructional techniques. Knowledge of disorders and safety rules. Computer proficiency. Confidentiality. Willingness to be trained in medical procedures.
Licenses/Special Requirements: Fingerprinting and background check. Adhere to infection control plan. May need first aid and CPR certification. Hepatitis‑B immunization offered. Complete Right Response Training and renew annually. Complete Fundamental Course and Para educator Certificate Program.
