Substitute Teacher
District Substitute
The Odessa R-VII School District is accepting applications for qualified substitutes. Substitutes for the Odessa R-VII School District assist students and staff when a full-time employee is absent requiring a substitute. Substitute teachers manage the classroom effectively; assist and supervise students; adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of individual students; follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher; and perform any other duties requested by the school.
Substitute paraprofessionals assist classroom teachers with tasks as requested; work with students in small groups or one to one; assist special education students as needed; and perform any other duties requested by the school. Substitute nurses receive and route incoming calls/correspondence; perform usual health room routines; keep logs in/out for student health room visits; and perform other tasks outlined by the full-time nurse of each location.
Substitute secretaries receive and route incoming calls/correspondence; assist, log-in/out, and direct visitors; perform usual office routines; utilize district student data systems as directed; maintain confidentiality as required and appropriate; and perform other tasks related to efficient operations as assigned by the building administrator/principal. Substitute custodians provide a safe, comfortable, and clean environment to ensure full use of district facilities; ensure all activities conform to district guidelines;
adapt to change and assignments productively; appropriately operate machinery as required; communicate effectively with members of the school district and community; and perform other tasks related to efficient operations as assigned by the building administrator/principal.
Qualifications for substitute teachers include holding a valid substitute certificate or teaching certificate through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Qualifications to be granted a DESE substitute certificate include providing DESE proof of a high school diploma; transcript or GED or high school equivalency test certificate verifying graduation; successfully completing a 20 hour online substitute training course through Frontline;
or submitting to DESE an official transcript showing completion of a minimum of 36 college semester hours through a regionally accredited college or university. Substitute paraprofessionals must hold a valid substitute certificate from DESE. Substitute nurses must hold and LPN or RN license to substitute in district. Substitute secretary/custodian must have a high school diploma or GED. Employment is contingent upon consent to and successful completion of a pre-employment background check with results acceptable to Odessa R-VII School District and final Board of Education approval.
