Student Advocate (High School Alternative Program)

Maximum of 550 hours annually

Qualifications:

• Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the completion of a high school diploma.
• Bachelor's degree from an approved institution preferred.
• Possess the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.

Principal of the High School Alternative Program

Job Goal:

The goal of a Student Advocate is to support each student enrolled in the High School Alternative Program in their efforts to complete graduation requirements by providing curricular support, social guidance, and individualized advocacy that eliminates barriers to diploma completion.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Serve as a liaison between the High School Alternative Program and NKC comprehensive high schools.
• Serve as a member and attend all meetings of the Student Assistance Team for the comprehensive school(s) for which you support.
• Lead the in-take process for students newly admitted to HSAP
• Gather student records to complete paperwork for enrollment
• Co-facilitate student-parent intake conferences with the Principal or Social Worker.
• Confirm transportation
• Foster relationships with students to support their progress in the program.
• Assist HSAP teachers with the administration of statewide testing and required testing associated with graduation.
• Assist with the High School Alternative Program Back to School night, Community Nights, and events associated with graduation.
• Assist HSAP teachers in tracking students' progress toward completion of all required components outlined for graduation. When applicable, assisting students to complete portfolios and work-based learning expectations.
• Assist with attendance calls, transportation arrangements, and technology tickets as needed.
• Supervise students on field trips to local businesses, community college campuses, and work-based learning experiences.
• Fully participate in professional development and meetings as directed by the Principal of the High School Alternative Program.
• Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
• Other duties as specified by the supervisor as needed.

Terms of Employment:

Student Advocates will work up to 550 hours annually (August through June as needed).

It is the responsibility of the Student Advocate to complete payroll forms and track total hours.

Performance of this job will be evaluated under the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluations utilizing the Performance-Based Teacher Evaluation process.
