The Full-Time Instructor of Mathematics at Southern University and A&M College (SU ) provides high-quality instruction in developmental and undergraduate mathematics courses in support of student success, degree completion, and STEAM pathways. The instructor creates an engaging, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment and delivers instruction through face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities.

The position is responsible for effectively integrating instructional technology and the University's learning management system into course delivery, assessing student learning outcomes, and contributing to continuous improvement of mathematics instruction and curriculum. The instructor also supports students through academic advising and mentoring and contributes to departmental and university initiatives through committee service, curriculum development, assessment activities, and professional development.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, student achievement, innovation in mathematics education, and collaboration with faculty and staff in advancing the mission of Southern University and A&M College as a comprehensive, student-centered, historically Black land-grant institution.

Job Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned undergraduate mathematics courses, including developmental, general education, and major-level courses, using appropriate instructional methods and modalities to support established course objectives and student learning outcomes.
  • Prepare and maintain course syllabi, lectures, instructional materials, assignments, examinations, and other assessments in accordance with departmental, college, and University academic standards.
  • Maintain scheduled office hours and provide academic advising, mentoring, tutoring, and instructional support to assist students with academic progress, course completion, and achievement of educational goals.
  • Evaluate student learning and academic performance using appropriate assessment methods; maintain accurate academic records and submit grades and other required documentation within established University deadlines.
  • Utilize the University's learning management system, instructional technology, active-learning strategies, and evidence-based teaching practices to enhance student engagement and learning across face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses.
  • Participate in curriculum development and review, course and program assessment, student learning outcomes evaluation, and accreditation-related activities to support continuous academic improvement.
  • Attend departmental, college, and University meetings and participate in faculty development, training, workshops, and other professional development activities that strengthen teaching effectiveness and disciplinary knowledge.
  • Serve on departmental, college, and University committees and participate in other service activities as assigned or appropriate to support academic programs and institutional priorities.
  • Participate in student recruitment, retention, tutoring, outreach, engagement, and other academic support initiatives designed to promote student persistence, achievement, and degree completion.
  • Perform other related instructional, academic, and service responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair, Dean, or University administration in support of the department, college, and University's mission.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Mathematics or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant teaching experience, preferably teaching mathematics at the secondary or postsecondary level.
Certifications / Licenses
  • Quality Matters (QM) Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) certification/course completion.
  • Quality Matters (QM) Improving Your Online Course (IYOC) certification/course completion.
