Position:

The department of Theatre at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor of Acting with focus on Acting for the Camera. The successful candidate will teach students the distinct approaches for stage and camera acting: upper division acting for the camera TH 345 and TH 448 preparing students for the film industry with acting techniques and business guidance (resumes, headshots, agents, managers, auditions, self‑tapes), TH 108A preparing majors with foundational stage acting technique, as well as other courses as needed by the department including TH208A and TH 111 for non‑majors.

This is an in‑person teaching position.

The ideal candidate will continue to develop professional expertise, and maintain an active, creative practice. We seek a candidate with a proven track record of creating work and/or participating in programs that foster and promote equity, inclusion, and representation, especially relevant to our diverse student population.

Other desirable teaching skills may include performance for Emerging Media Performance (e.g. performance capture, gaming, virtual production), voice‑over, intimacy coaching, directing student productions.

In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online and will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion.

Required Qualifications:

  • An M.F.A. degree in Acting or a related field from an accredited institution, foreign equivalency or post‑baccalaureate experience, training, and expertise at least equivalent to those required for the Master of Fine Arts degree.
  • Experience teaching in‑person stage acting at the university/college level, or equivalent professional performance training programs.
