Reading Intervention Teacher POSITION OVERVIEW

Underthe direction of the Coordinator of Special Education Instruction, the Reading Intervention Teacher provides direct, research-based reading intervention services to identified students and serves as a district resource for literacy intervention, dyslexia, and the Science of Reading. The Reading Intervention Teacher collaborates with school teams to analyze student data, match students to appropriate interventions, support Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), provide coaching and consultation to educators, and facilitate professional learning for staff across the district.

The Reading Intervention Teacher may also participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) development and implementation for students with literacy-related disabilities.

TRAINING

Appoquinimink School District may require you to be trained in Safety-Care or a similar competency-based crisis prevention intervention training program as a condition of your continued employment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides direct, research-based reading intervention instruction to students identified through district-established criteria.
  • Delivers intervention services in individual and small-group settings.
  • Utilizes progress monitoring tools and assessment data to evaluate student growth and instructional effectiveness.
  • Maintains accurate records of student progress, intervention implementation, and assessment results.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers to align intervention services with core literacy instruction.
  • Participates in MTSS meetings to assist teams in analyzing student data, identifying instructional needs, and selecting evidence-based interventions.
  • Supports school teams in implementing reading interventions with fidelity and monitoring student outcomes.
  • Provides coaching and consultation to teachers, interventionists, administrators, and support staff regarding literacy instruction and intervention practices.
  • Supports implementation of district literacy initiatives aligned to the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy principles.
  • Provides professional learning to teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and other staff on topics including, but not limited to:
    • Science of Reading
    • Dyslexia and literacy-related disabilities
    • Reading intervention implementation
    • Progress monitoring and data-based decision making
    • Evidence-based literacy practices
  • Develops and facilitates district-wide professional learning during district professional development days and other training opportunities.
  • Serves as a resource to school teams regarding literacy assessments, intervention planning, and student progress monitoring.
  • Participates in IEP meetings and contributes literacy expertise to support students with reading disabilities and other literacy-related needs.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of literacy-related IEP goals and services as assigned.
  • Collaborates with special education staff, school psychologists, educational diagnosticians, and related service providers to support student achievement.
  • Maintains professionalism, confidentiality, and an atmosphere that promotes student learning and growth.
  • Integrates technology into intervention services, coaching, and professional learning opportunities.
  • Participates in ongoing professional learning to maintain expertise in current literacy research, instructional practices, and district-adopted intervention programs.
  • Participates in district and school-level committees designed to foster continuous improvement and student achievement.
  • Communicates effectively in oral and written form with students, staff, families, and community stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Coordinator of Special Education Instruction
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Hold or be eligible for State of Delaware teacher certification.
  • Reading Specialist certification preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Science of Reading, Structured Literacy, and evidence-based reading intervention practices.
