Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for teaching adult education classes using instructional methods geared towards the adult learner in a classroom setting
  • Plan lessons and curriculum based on the learning needs of culturally diverse and multi-skill level students which prepare students to pass the high school equivalency tests and/or enhance basic education skills
  • Delivers whole group, small group, and individualized instruction to students, using a variety of instructional methods, materials, and techniques
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students
  • Assure that students who qualify are pre- and post-tested as needed using the TABE Assessment as dictated by DRC and Adult Education guidelines
  • Keep daily attendance records and progress reports
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date records
  • Enter all reportable data, according to policy and procedures, into the approved Student Information System
  • Participate and manage registration, testing, and scheduling events
  • Establish a positive and trusting relationship with students
  • Foster student accountability, self-advocacy, self-awareness, and critical thinking skills
  • Adhere to regulations set forth regarding confidentiality of student records
  • Promote participation of students in all aspects of Adult Education programming
  • Maintain clean and professional classroom environment
  • Adhere to LDCC's Standards of Practice
  • Any other duties as assigned
Required Education
  • An Associate's degree or higher
  • Strong communication skills, including both written and oral, with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of personalities
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree
  • Three (3) years teaching experience

The Adjunct Adult Education Instructor will provide instructional services to adults and youths who are out of school in basic skills such as reading, writing, and mathematics. Responsible for increasing the students' educational functioning level and preparing students to obtain their high school equivalency diploma and/or industry-based credentials (IBC) to secure entry-level employment or advance in their current occupation. This position requires proactive communication, timely and accurate service to internal and external partners, accountability for follow-up and follow-through, and a continuous improvement mindset aligned with LDCC's Standards of Practice for excellence, collaboration, and service.
