The Department of Audiology at San José State University is pleased to announce a search for Department Chair beginning in August 2027. This position is a full-time tenured faculty appointment with a fractional administrative appointment as chair, responsible for the academic, administrative, and strategic direction of the program. The successful candidates will possess a substantive record of published research, teaching effectiveness, leadership experiences, and professional achievements, coupled with a demonstrated commitment to advancing health equity, interprofessional practice, and supporting diverse student populations.

The Chair provides visionary academic and administrative leadership for the Department of Audiology and ensures rigorous compliance with ACAE and CAA accreditation standards while fostering a collaborative, shared governance environment with the faculty to guide curriculum, clinical training, and programmatic decisions. The Chair also serves as a mentor and advocate for the department’s faculty, actively supporting their ongoing teaching effectiveness, research productivity, and professional advancement.

Furthermore, the Chair provides essential administrative oversight and strategic support to the Audiology Clinic Director in clinic operations, ensuring the clinic’s operational success, community impact, and long-term financial sustainability. Teaching assignments will be in graduate audiology and will reflect the candidate’s expertise, departmental needs, and the workload assigned to the chair role. The term of the chair appointment is four years.

Upon conclusion of service as Chair, the incumbent continues as a tenured member of the Audiology faculty with a full-time assignment in teaching, research, and service in graduate audiology.

Established in response to the need for highly trained audiologists in California, particularly Northern California, the Department of Audiology offers a four-year, 110-unit Doctor of Audiology program with a comprehensive research and clinical training mission. Located in Silicon Valley, the program prepares students to serve the hearing and balance healthcare needs of the region’s diverse communities through comprehensive academic and clinical training.

Students gain hands‑on experience through the department’s on-campus audiology clinic, vestibular laboratory, clinical rotations, and externships, while also completing a multi-semester doctoral research project that integrates evidence-based practice and research with clinical education. Small cohorts of 8–12 students allow for close faculty mentorship and individualized professional development.
