Overview

The Automation Engineer will lead the design, deployment, and optimization of automation technologies to transform warehouse logistics operations. This role is critical to driving efficiency, reducing manual handling, and improving material flow through advanced automation solutions. A primary responsibility will be the implementation of autonomous mobile vehicles (AMVs) and/or autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) to support dynamic material movement, streamline order fulfillment, and enable scalable warehouse operations.

The engineer will ensure seamless integration of AMRs with existing systems, including WMS and safety protocols. This position is based at our Wentzville, MO facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Automation & Robotics: Design and deploy AMR/AMV solutions for material transport, replenishment, and order picking, ensuring optimal fleet management and navigation.
  • Warehouse Optimization: Analyze current workflows to identify bottlenecks and labor-intensive processes suitable for automation; apply lean principles to streamline operations.
  • Simulation & Modeling: Develop and validate simulation models for AMR routing, traffic management, and throughput improvements to ensure performance before deployment.
  • Systems Integration: Integrate AMRs with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), IoT-enabled devices, and APIs to enable real-time visibility and control.
  • Safety & Compliance: Establish safety standards and operational guidelines for shared human-robot environments; ensure compliance with ISO/ANSI and local regulations.
  • Data Analytics: Monitor AMR performance metrics such as cycle time, utilization, and error rates; implement continuous improvement strategies based on data insights.
  • Project Management & Documentation: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align automation initiatives with cost reduction and service-level goals; prepare detailed documentation including system architecture, SOPs, and maintenance plans.
  • Quality & Reliability: Align automation efforts with quality control objectives, resolve production issues, and implement preventive maintenance strategies to ensure reliability.

The work environment includes both office and operational areas, such as offices, collaborative work spaces, and an active warehouse or production floor. Employees are expected to work across these settings, with adherence to site-specific safety protocols and PPE requirements where applicable.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full-Time, Exempt.

Schedule flexibility for extended or unplanned work hours is required.

Travel

Travel may be required between TVS Supply Chain Solutions, North American sites.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering or related
  • 4+ years of experience in automation engineering, with a focus on warehouse or logistics environments.
  • Hands-on experience with AMRs/AMVs platforms and fleet management software.
  • Proven experience with PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, etc.), robotics integration, and conveyor systems.
