The Toolmaker / CNC Manufacturing Specialist is responsible for supporting the development, optimization, and sustainment of precision manufacturing processes through the design, fabrication, inspection, and maintenance of highly specialized tools, molds, jigs, and fixtures. This role plays a critical part in early‑stage product and process development by collaborating cross‑functionally to ensure designs are functional, manufacturable, and compliant with Class III medical device requirements.
Leveraging advanced CAD modeling, CNC programming, and machining expertise, the position ensures high‑quality, reliable tooling solutions that enable uninterrupted production, continuous improvement, and the delivery of safe, high‑performance implantable medical devices.
Responsibilities:
- High level proficiency with 3D modeling (CAD)
- Experience working with very small precision tools, molds, jigs, and fixtures
- Up‑front involvement in the conceptualization of production processes and product development where applicable to the purpose of the job
- The review of preliminary CAD models and drawings for functionality and manufacturability
- The fabrication of the final designs
- The use of advanced knowledge of CAD and machine language converters (Master Cam)
- The advanced use of computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines
- The advanced use and conventional manual machines & equipment such as grinders, lathes, and mills
- Checks and inspects works against requirements
- Design of fixtures may be required
- Creative design approach to fulfilling requestors requirements
- Creation of 2D/3D drawing and models
- Maintenance and repair of existing precision tools, molds, jigs, and fixtures
- Fast turnaround for uninterrupted production
Travelling Requirement: up to 5%
More about you:
- Education & Training: High school diploma or equivalent required;
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred. Intermediate Microsoft Office skills and up-to-date advanced Master Cam training required. - Work Experience: Minimum 5 years of toolmaking experience with a wide variety of materials, including experience in an implantable medical device manufacturing environment, and 5 years of CNC programming experience.
- Technical Expertise: Advanced knowledge of machine tool operation and CNC programming, with at least intermediate proficiency in Solid Works and Creo.

Self‑motivated with strong analytical problem‑solving skills; adaptable to changing priorities, demands, and timelines in a fast‑paced environment. - Collaboration & Leadership: Proven ability to work in ambiguous environments, collaborate cross‑functionally, interact effectively at all organizational levels and with external suppliers, and mentor other Toolmakers.
- Additional Requirements: Proficiency in English, working knowledge of Microsoft Office and engineering software, and experience with the structure and regulatory requirements of a Class III medical device manufacturing company.
