Job DescriptionThe Department of Mining and Explosives Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to support research activities related to sustainable battery materials processing and characterization. The position is part of a DED‑funded project focused on the recovery, synthesis, and testing of battery precursor materials produced from recycled lithium‑ion batteries. The successful candidate will work on the preparation, characterization, and electrochemical evaluation of in‑house recovered battery precursor materials, with emphasis on linking upstream recycling and hydrometallurgical processing to downstream battery performance.
The position offers an opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary research environment focused on critical minerals, battery materials, and sustainable energy technologies.
Duties- Design, organize, and conduct research in the field of critical materials related to battery production.
- Collect, interpret, and analyze engineering test data and summarize findings.
- Prepare complete documentation and technical reports of the research activities related to the assigned projects.
- Write peer‑reviewed journal articles and present work at conferences.
- Write proposals for external funding.
- Provide guidance for graduate and undergraduate students as needed.
- Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field.
- Experience with lithium‑ion battery materials, precursor synthesis, battery recycling, hydrometallurgy, or electrochemical characterization.
- Familiarity with analytical techniques such as XRD, SEM/EDS, ICP, XPS, or electrochemical testing methods.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
